From piloting Navy aircraft across the world to leading classrooms of emerging data professionals, Dr. Jeffrey Bohler's career is a story of discipline, discovery, and dedication.

Dr. Bohler currently serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the MIS Department at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Information Systems (INFO) and Data Analytics (QMTD). His teaching philosophy blends real-world experience with academic rigor, inspiring students to become innovators and leaders in a data-driven world.

But his journey began well before AUM. At just 17, Dr. Bohler enlisted in the U.S. Navy and trained as an Electronics Technician in the elite Nuclear Power Program. His skill and drive quickly propelled him forward—earning a Naval ROTC scholarship to Georgia Tech, where he completed a degree in Information and Computer Science. Commissioned as an Ensign, he went on to earn his wings as a Naval Aviator, flying the legendary S-3B Viking aircraft on missions specializing in anti-submarine warfare.

Over his 25-year Navy career, Dr. Bohler's assignments spanned the globe. He deployed with the USS Independence out of Japan, served as an Aviation Safety Officer in California, embarked on the maiden voyage of the USS Stennis, and later studied at the Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, AL—where he earned his master's degree. His career also carried him to Stuttgart, Germany, where he served at U.S. European Command Headquarters, and back to Auburn University as the Executive Officer for its Naval ROTC program, during which time he completed his Ph.D. in Management of Information Technology and Innovation (MIS). His final assignment at Maxwell AFB with the Defense Financial Manager's and Comptroller's School capped his career, retiring with the rank of Commander.

Today, Dr. Bohler brings the same attention to precision and passion for mission success to the classroom that he once brought to the cockpit. He consults with organizations on using Information Systems and Data Analytics to sharpen decision-making and drive performance, fueling his conviction that data is one of the most powerful tools in a leader's arsenal.

Beyond the academic halls, Dr. Bohler and his wife Judy make their home in Auburn, AL. Their two sons, David and Sam—both pursuing careers in Information Systems and Data Analytics—carry forward the family's fascination with technology and problem-solving. Conversations at the Bohler household often delve into the newest methods, tools, and insights shaping the future of the discipline.

Dr. Bohler's guiding principle is clear: whether mentoring students, researching innovations, or consulting with businesses, he strives to unlock the transformative power of information. "I love showing students how data can tell a story," he says, "and how systems, when used wisely, can be the engine that drives innovation and success."

He looks forward to working with each new class of students, encouraging them to engage, explore, and step boldly into the limitless opportunities of the digital age.

With over 33 years of experience in one of the world’s most demanding professions, John R. Lawrence built a distinguished career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), serving in both tower and en route center environments. His work directly supported the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the U.S. National Airspace System.

John began his FAA journey in 1987, gaining early experience at an en route center before transitioning to several high-traffic airport towers. There, he refined his expertise in ground coordination, high-density airspace management, and precision communication—skills that became the hallmark of his professional reputation.

He later returned to the en route environment at Atlanta ARTCC, one of the busiest and most complex facilities in the country. Managing long-range aircraft sequencing and maintaining safe separation across congested airspace, John was recognized for his strategic thinking, calm under pressure, and exceptional situational awareness.

In addition to his operational excellence, John served as a dedicated trainer, mentor, and subject-matter expert on evolving FAA procedures. His leadership and commitment to continuous improvement shaped the careers of many new controllers and helped advance the broader mission of the FAA.

Now retired from federal service, John brings the same precision, discipline, and focus on quality to his current business and consulting pursuits. Whether in aviation or beyond, he remains driven by a passion for excellence, a commitment to service, and an eye for detail that consistently delivers results.
